The Kandu are a Hindu caste in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. They traditionally provided parched grains and are one of the Bania castes in theVaishya Varna. In Bihar, Kandu often use Gupta as a surname. Kandu living in Nepal are also called Kanu (Nepali:कानू). Saints from this community include Sant Paltu Prasad from Nagpurjalalpur (near Ayodhya), who composed the Bhajnavali .
The Kandu caste has sub-castes Madhesia, Maghaiya, Bantaria, Kanaujia, Gour, Koranch, Dhuria, Rawani, Ballamitra, and Thathera (distinct from the Thathera caste). In Bihar state, Kandus are found in Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur,Siwan, Patna and Bhojpur districts. Present circumstances

The community is endogamous but practices village and clan exogamy. They have abandoned their traditional occupation of grain parching. Now they are mainly traders, village shop keepers and money lenders in villages. Urban Kandu follow various other occupations. Their traditions are similar to other Banias in Bihar.
what is madhesia kanu.They are in large numbers in northern districts of bihar and half of them are well of with business and lands.Never heard of kandu

ReplyDeleteYou wrongly include them in Tailik or kandu and mentions their main occupation as grain parcing.
Grain parcher were kannaujia kanu and still some paces they parch the grain.
The education in Tailik community are high and this is why they spread their say on document.
Madhesia kanu has never been a pioneer advocate for their welfare and had been struggling to grow.
In real life, madhesia kanu are very poorly educated.The percentage of education in rural area is very very low and half of the population is not with the mainstream.
Madhesia kanu never mariage out of community except love marriages which are decimal.
