Dilip Shanghvi (born 1955 in Mumbai, India) is the founder and managing director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited. Sun Pharma was founded in 1983 and it is currently the second-largest drugmaker in India. Appreciation of the Sun Pharma stock led to a 50% surge in his personal wealth, amounting to USD 4.7 billion. Sanghvi is now the third richest Indian pushing the IT czar Azim Premji to the 4th spot.
Mr. Shanghvi is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Advanced Research Company Ltd. (SPARC Ltd.); an International pharmaceutical company engaged in research and development of drugs and delivery systems. SPARC, created in 2007 by the de-merger of innovative business from Sun Pharma, is the first pure-R&D company to be listed on the Indian stock exchanges.
Shanghvi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calcutta. He is an alumnus of J. J. Ajmera High School andBhawanipur Education Society College, from where he did his schooling and graduation, respectively. His younger brother, Mr. Jayant Sanghvi lives in Vadodara and owns a real-estate business named Pratham Enterprises.
