Shri Surati Modh Vanik Jagruti Mandal – Mumbai is an association of people from the Modh Vanik Community residing in and around Mumbai. Their origins are from the Ghachi community hailing from Surat and its surrounding areas.
Ghachi’s are also known as Delvadia/Modh/Modi/Sahu/Sahoo/Teli/Ganiga/Gandhi and belong to the Vaishya varn community found in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and various parts of India. Origins of the Community
The community name is of an Indian origin, and means a businessman dealing in production and selling of oils- (Teli) Vaishya. This community is commonly found in Ahmedabad, Navsari, Surat, Valsad, Bilimora as well as in Mumbai.
Modh Ghachi are originally from Modhera in Gujarat who later migrated to – Saurashtra, Amreli, Bagasra, Bilkha, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Kalol, Kadi, parts of Rajastha, Jodhpur, Pali, Sojat, Sumerpur and Mumbai.

Narendra Modi, the 15th Prime Minister of India belongs to the Modh Ghachi community from Visnagar near Modhera in Gujarat.
